It was a powerful moment on American Idol Season 11’s finale when Jessica Sanchez collaborated with her personal idol, Jennifer Holliday. The two effortlessly commanded the stage with their duet of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.”

Jennifer recently shared her experience of working with Jessica with ABS CBN News, saying she’d already “felt connected with [her] early on,” long before their on-stage collaboration.

Her impression of Jessica after working with her for the Idol finale was that she “has an exceptional instrument and… knows instinctively exactly what to do” with it.

And since Jennifer’s been in showbiz for a while, she gave the young singer an important piece of advice. “The main thing I told Jessica,” Jennifer explained, was “I didn't want her to be like me in my young life. It happened so fast. I just was not ready. It was an overwhelming responsibility to be a young person in an adult world, carrying adults.”

Considering that Jessica is only 16, hopefully Jennifer’s words will sink in as her career advances!
