Despite what you may have seen on American Idol this season, runner-up Jessica Sanchez insists there’s another side to her you might not know.

The 16-year-old singer recently sat down with Rolling Stone and said, “I want people to know that the person I was in the competition is kinda different from who I want to be as an artist.” She explained that a lot of the song choices during Idol gave people the wrong idea about her musical tastes.

“I’m not a pop singer at all,” said Jessica, noting that her finale song was especially confusing for her fans. ”I’m ready to show everyone that’s not who I am.” One thing we definitely wouldn’t have guessed is her love for Eminem, one of her favorite artists of all time. “I would cry if he walked into this room right now,” she admitted.

As Aaliyah once said, age ain’t nothin’ but a number, and Jessica firmly believes her hard work over the years gives her an edge in the music biz. “My age doesn’t mean anything,” said Jessica. “I’ve been working hard ever since I was little.”

Jessica also explained that her solid upbringing has helped her cope with all the post-Idol attention she’s received. “I tell myself just to stay grounded no matter what happens because this whole thing can change you like that,” she said with a snap of her fingers.
