Jessica Sanchez may seem like a very fresh face, but the young beauty has been singing and performing for years.

In a new interview with the American Idol Season 11 runner-up and her mom, Edita Sanchez, the mother-daughter duo revealed that Jessica started hitting all the right notes around the same time she started kindergarten! Not only that, but some of her earliest covers were of Idols themselves!

According to Edita, Jessica started belting out tunes around the age of five. “She started singing a lot of Kelly Clarkson and Whitney [Houston] and Celine Dion, and I’m like ‘Wow!’ She could really, really hold a note.”

“I love friends, and I love hanging out with people, but my main focus was always music,” Jessica said with a smile. “Music and family always came first for me. I mean, that’s why I’m in this position today, I think, because I always had a goal and now I’m here.”

Edita agreed that Jessica’s passion for the stage was strong from a young age. “Even at like eleven years old, she’s like ‘Mom, I wanna do something in the music industry,’” she explained.

Jessica’s mom also noted how Idol has changed Jessica over the past year. “For one, I think she has more confidence on-stage, which is awesome,” Edita said.
