American Idol winner Jordin Sparks is taking the news of Whitney Houston's death very hard, family says. “I received a phone call from Jordin," her grandmother Pam Weidman told Phoenix's Fox 10. "She was in tears. She is utterly devastated.”
The legendary singer plays Sparks' mother in the feature film Sparkle, which Houston also executive produced. The movie, which is still on track to be released this summer, was Houston's first film role in over a decade. According to Fox 10, the two singers became friends while filming the movie, with Houston becoming a mentor figure for the young pop star.
Houston passed away at the age of 48 on Saturday, February 11, in Los Angeles.
