Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj were both onstage together for Fox's Television Critics Association panel, and it was more than a little uncomfortable.

For starters, the two American Idol judges disagreed about who was actually responsible for their reported feud.

"It was kind of one-sided," Mariah told the panel on January 8.

"No, it wasn't," Nicki responded. Yikes.

Then, the two were asked to pay compliments to each other. Nicki was up first.

"That actually is easy," Nicki says. "I say nice things about Mariah all the time. I even tell her all the time how much a fan I am of her. She's one of my favorite artists of all time. She's really shaped a generation of singers."

Nicki also pointed out that it's "crazy" to be a judge with Mariah, since so many of the contestants on the show "aspire to be Mariah."

Mariah told her that this was a "very sweet thing to say." But then Mariah said, "Um," as she paused quite a bit before giving a compliment back. There was even nervous laughter from the audience.

So was this Mariah's effort to stall? "It was," she responded. Well, at least she's honest!

Finally, she told the crowd that she had worked with Nicki early in Nicki's career and knew that she would have a lot of success.

Mariah also the crowd, "We're professionals. You ever have an argument with someone you worked with?" Awkward!

Long story short, these two clearly aren't besties! But that means it should be interesting to watch them on the show.
