These days, it seems like American Idol Top 13 contestant Paul McDonald is making more waves with his clothes than with his singing. First there was his bedazzled suit, which garnered praise from judge and fashion icon Jennifer Lopez. Now Paul’s getting some flack from Idol fans in the military for wearing a Marines Corps Dress Blues-inspired jacket in last night’s Top 13 performance episode.

For instance, one commenter on a Zap2It post of Paul McDonald’s performance had this to say: "My family member was KIA in Iraq, he was buried in that jacket which is the United States Marine Corps dress blues. This touches a very emotional chord in hearts like mine, and I take offense."

Paul has since taken to Twitter to let his fans know that, of course, he meant no harm:

@PMcDonaldAI10 I've been told my jacket on the show upset some folks ... I wasn't trying to offend anyone. Sorry! I've got nothing but love for you guys!

@PMcDonaldAI10 Just to let everyone know I have nothing but respect for our men and women in the armed forces. Tons of respect for you guys.

We know Paul wasn’t out to ruffle feathers at this stage in the game, so we suggest he avoid controversy and just stick to his rhinestone jacket!
