First-time American Idol judge Nicki Minaj has never ceased to entertain viewers, whether it is with her feuds, fabulous wardrobe, or her intense judging style. She has gotten emotional over a contestant's elimination and provided some tough love for this year's crop of contestants — but she is defending it all.
The rapper defended her straightforward judging style, saying, "When I speak in a blunt way, like I do, people take that as me not loving or caring about these people, but I really do. They are family to me, I feel like I'm not doing them a service if I blow smoke up their ass. I refuse to do that."
Nicki has always kept it real on American Idol, and has even gotten really attached to contestants, specifically Burnell Taylor.
"When I see someone come from nothing, and their family just lost everything in Hurricane Katrina and they had to rebuild ... I remember my own childhood," the "Super Bass" diva said. "Not only did he have such a beautiful story, but he had such a unique voice and unique spirit. So yeah, those tears were real for Burnell."
While other judges are a little long-winded, Nicki's straightforward approach is always welcome. Her critiques seem to really come from a good place and the show has definitely been enhanced by her bigger-than-life personality.
Thanks for keeping it real, Nicki.
