American Idol 2013 judge Nicki Minaj was a standout at the New York "PUNK: Chaos to Couture" Met Ball Gala this weekend — because she didn't look crazy! While most stars attending the event took the opportunity to dress up in crazy couture gowns and punk costumes, Nicki Minaj was one of the most understated and normal looking celebs at the Met Ball. Interestingly enough, the decision to go glam instead of gaudy gave Nicki a nice touch of elegance on a night when there were a lot of major fashion don'ts.
And it was all thanks to designer Tommy Hilfiger.
All signs in the media point to the fact that American Idol fans want current judge Nicki Minaj ousted. Gone. Outta there, like it never even happened, Ellen DeGeneres-style. But there’s one guy that’s still standing firmly in her corner, though, and that’s fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger.
Nicki donned a Tommy Hilfiger dress for last night’s oh-so-fashionable Met Ball in New York City and, as a thanks, the designer sent her a Rolex Oyster 41mm Day-Date II watch in Everose gold. The retail price for that baby? $32,000!
That’s a pretty big thank you!
It's interesting to think of Nicki Minaj being approached by a relatively conservative designer. The rapper-turned-judge used to be known for her outrageous wardrobe choices and funky, pink hair, but she's recently been going the more demure route.
Nicki was in good company, as Tommy also outfitted Zooey Deschanel, Debbie Harry, Lily Aldridge, and Kings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill for the Met Ball Gala event.
If you were a designer, would you want Nicki to wear one of your dresses?
