The gay community loves American Idol 2013 judge Nicki Minaj, and why wouldn’t they? From her crazy costumes to her collection of rainbow-colored wigs to her bootylicious bod, the rapper screams “fabulous” with practically everything she does.
So who was Nicki’s favorite gay American Idol contestant this year? No, despite some possibly subtle innuendo between the two during a critique earlier in the season, we are not talking about rumored closeted gay Paul Jolley. Nicki’s favorite American Idol gay contestant this season was out and proud.
“I definitely think Papa Peachez is the one that was probably the dearest to my heart only because i felt that he was such a super star, but I don't think he really knew that yet,” Nicki told reporters during a conference call.
In case your memory needs jogging, we met Papa Peachez during the San Antonio, Texas auditions, where he proclaimed he was “a big black woman trapped in a skinny white boy’s body.” After a statement like that, we expected big things from this lanky and charismatic singer. Thankfully, he impressed the judges with an original song sung in a deep, rich baritone and earned himself a ticket to Hollywood Week.
But when it came time to go head-to-head with some of the competition’s best singer’s, Papa lost his footing a bit.
“I just thought he was so exciting, like I wanted to just see him perform his original music every week, but unfortunately as soon as he didn’t perform the original music he kind of got overshadowed by all the other big singers,” Nicki Minaj explained.
Better luck next time, Papa. At least you know Nicki’s got your back!
