Yesterday, the web-o-sphere exploded when American Idol alum Adam Lambert was rumored to be in the running for a judging spot on the show’s 12th season. Adam quickly addressed the buzz, saying that while he would jump at the opportunity if it came up, it hasn’t just yet.

Now Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe is speaking up on the matter.

Appearing on Showbiz Tonight, Nigel said, "I can confirm with you that I have not been speaking to Adam Lambert, but there are going to be lots of names coming up now. It’s a bit like... when they were looking for judges for X-Factor. Everybody’s name came up. It’s going to be the same with American Idol. Everything’s still up in the air, I have to say. Nothing is confirmed," he explained.

If Nigel had his druthers, he declared that he’d pick Charlie Sheen or Jerry Lewis as judges. "I’m not sure how far I’ll get with that, but I think that would be fun!" he teased.

Indeed, those two would be interesting, to say the least. We’re hoping that’s not what Nigel has in mind for the “creative reinvigoration” of the show!
