Now that American Idol Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips is officially recovering from his much-needed kidney operation, his first major comeback performance has finally been announced!

According to the Associated Press, Phillip will be reclaiming the stage on July 4 at the Washington D.C. National Mall’s big Independence Day celebration.

Phillip will be one of the show’s big celebrity performers, and he’s expected to re-debut his hit Idol finale clencher, “Home,” in front of more than 300,000 spectators at the U.S. Capitol. That’s quite a fitting comeback for the 21-year-old singer!

“It’s probably the biggest thing I’ve ever done besides American Idol,” Phillip told the AP. “I’m just excited to get out there and do my first real live performance since everything that’s been going on.”

Until then, Phillip’s got a little more time to finish healing up. From the sound of it, things are already looking up for the Georgia native.

"I'm getting better each day, so that's a good thing,” said Phillip. “I'm just walking around, getting my strength back together … It was tough, you know, those first few days, but I'm getting to where I can pick the guitar back up and write a little bit.”
