UPDATE: When asked about his health issues at a press conference on May 21, Phillip Phillips told reporters that there wasn't any truth to the reports that his doctor didn't want him to go through with the finale. "No, no, no," he said. "You can't believe everything."
Phillip Phillips got some majorly good news last night on American Idol: He has advanced to the finale. But over the weekend during his hometown visit, he reportedly got an earful from his family doctor about his ongoing health problems.
Phillip’s been expecting to undergo a serious surgery for chronic kidney stone problems before he heads off for the Season 11 Idol Summer Tour, but TMZ reports that his doctor “was alarmed by what he saw” and “told him he needed surgery now.”
Being that he’s so close to the win and has muscled through his ailments all season long, Phillip reportedly told his doc that he’s going to see it through to next week, “so the doctor told him he absolutely had to go under the knife immediately after the finale.”
Poor Phillip may be looking at more than six weeks of recovery time, according to TMZ. Poor fella! This news might just give the judges a new appreciation for his rendition of Matchbox 20’s “Disease” on this week!
