American Idol winner and runner-up Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina stole the competition thanks to a winning combination of country-fried hits and Southern swagger. Now that these young'uns have hit the big time, don't think they'll be abandoning their musical roots. Despite their cross-over appeal, we can expect more country hits from Lauren and Scotty.

In a recent interview, Lauren says, “Well, country fans are really loyal, so I think that's why Scotty and I did so good. We're young and so we appeal to a younger crowd, and I think that the combination of those two things really helped us out." Scotty adds that he's been a life-long country fan. While his friends were into the Backstreet Boy and N’Sync, the singer was listening to country classics. He says, "I guess you could say I was the weird one. But, no, I was the one who listened to good music."

But while Scotty and Lauren will be singing music to a ready-made country audience, they’re still feeling the pressure to succeed. After all, American Idol did launch the careers of country artists like Carrie Underwood (Season 4) and Kellie Picker (Season 5). When asked about the stresses of being a new singing star, Scotty said, "I [just] want to go out there and make the best record that I can, and I think if I do that people will buy it. It's just up to me to put good songs on the album and get songs on that thing that people want to hear... I guess that's kind of [a lot of] pressure."

Judging by what we’ve already seen on Idol, we don’t doubt that these two will go far!
