Well, someone had to go. With no more saves for the judges to use (and a show schedule to stick to), the nationwide vote dictated that Colton Dixon would be eliminated from American Idol.

A standout from the beginning (have you seen his fabulous hair?), the rock-centric singer originally caught the eye of Idol judges when he and sister Schyler both auditioned for Season 10. Baby sis urged Colton to audition again this year, and he definitely did not disappoint. His unconventional take on classic songs and piano playing proclivities worked in his favor the majority of the time. During Billy Joel week, he wowed the judges (and Billy himself!) with a rousing rendition of “Piano Man.”

But his reign of triumph ended with yesterday’s “Now and Then” performances. Despite a fairly successful interpretation of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” Colton’s take on Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September” rubbed the judges the wrong way. It seems most of the voters agreed with them, and he was eliminated after touching the Bottom 3 for the first time all season.

Do you agree with how the 53 million Americans voted last night? Should Colton have been eliminated?
