Despite being touted as the “black horse” of Season 11, Hollie Cavanagh was eliminated from American Idol tonight based on the nationwide vote.

Throughout the competition, Hollie struggled to stay out of the Bottom 3 and took the judges’ criticisms to heart. For a couple of weeks, she began garnering praise for her improved song choices and confident stage presence. But this week, she floundered with her song choices, picking two middling ballads — Journey’s “Faithfully” and Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” — that gave few chances to display her vocal abilities.
