We weren’t at all surprised when the American Idol judges did not use their save to keep country singer Janelle Arthur from being eliminated last week. Janelle, on the other hand, did seem a little shocked — partially because she wasn’t even aware the judges still had the option to use it!
“Well I've heard that [Thursday night] was the last night that they could use [the save],” Janelle said in a press conference call after her elimination. “So I didn't even know that. I didn't even know it until afterwards or I might've been a little more hurt that they didn't save me. But I just thought that they were using it for another girl, but actually, that was their only chance and they decided not to even use it!”
We don't really feel Janelle deserved to stay in the competition, despite our appreciation of her old school country style. She was simply being outperformed by the other four ladies and never had a chance of winning. However, since the American Idol 2013 schedule has a built in extra week to accommodate for the judges using their save power, we do find it a little heartbreaking for Janelle that they decided to throw it away instead of use it. Now, producers will have to sub in some kind of filler week to still have the Season 12 American Idol finale take place on Wednesday May 15 and Thursday May 16.
Obviously there has to be a backup plan because there was always the possibility the American Idol judges would not use their save power. So far there aren’t any spoilers out there about what exactly the plan is, but we’ll let you know as soon as we find out.
Meanwhile, we want to know what you think — should the American Idol judges have used their save to keep Janelle in the competition for another round?
