The folks over at American Idol 2013 are coming up with some snappy new promos now that the season is really heating up, and they asked the Top 40 hopefuls to answer what made them audition using only one word. Kinda tough, eh?

There were a lot of common answers, like “passion,” destiny,” and “family,” while some who were returning to the American Idol stage (like Cortez Shaw and Johnny Keyser) named “redemption.”

A few singers named a specific family member or friend, while Vincent Powell went with “Vincent,” which was rather interesting. As one might have imagined, Charlie Askew’s was probably the most inventive, as he said “illumination.”

“Church Girl” Cristabel Clack named “boldness,” but it was Burnell Taylor who said “God.”

The Las Vegas rounds kick off tonight, with two-hour shows on Wednesday and Thursday over two weeks, so we will know these faces, voices, and most likely their backstories inside and out soon enough. Who is your fave so far?
