The Voice’s Blake Shelton hopes that competing program American Idol taps the country music singer pool for at least one of their Season 12 judging spots.

Chatting with Country Countdown USA, Blake pointed out how many Idol alums have been welcomed with open arms into the country music biz, like Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, Scotty McCreery, and Lauren Alaina. “It’s the country artists who go on to have big careers, because the country fan base is the most loyal in the world,” he said. “If they see someone on The Voice or Idol, they don’t care if they win or lose. They wait for the album to come out, and they demand music to come out from that artist.”

Blake believes Keith Urban, a rumored top contender the Idol judging gig, would be a smart pick for the show.

“Keith catches on pretty quick… here’s a guy who produces, he writes, he plays, and sings,” said Blake.

But he thinks Brad Paisley should really be the one to join Idol. “I think it would be good for them [American Idol], and maybe I shouldn’t want anything good for that, but the bigger picture for me is what’s good for the country music industry and what’s gonna bring the most awareness to us,” explained Blake.

But with Brad’s busy schedule and reportedly high salary requirements, it’s looking less and less likely that he’ll be the one signing the dotted line to judge Idol.
