Amber Holcomb has had the undying love and admiration of the American Idol judges since season 12 began, but America only now seems to be catching on to her appeal. She still landed in the bottom two last week, though, and was joined by Candice Glover (huge shocker!). Still, making the Top Four is a feat in and of itself.
So why hasn’t Amber had the online fanbase that so many of these other folks have? We don’t exactly know, although we’re not quite sure the audience buys her as having a contemporary sound (despite the American Idol judges’ insistence each week that she is current). Last week’s song choices by Amber didn’t do her any favors in this arena.
Despite having pretty much free rein with the themes — one hit wonders and free choice — Amber chose to go with Celine Dion’s “Power Of Love” and the old disco song “MacArthur Park.” That would have been the perfect opportunity for her to take on something modern, as Candice did a few weeks ago, and knock it out of the park. As the judges so often say, we’re left wondering what kind of artist this stunning singer really wants to be.
