Were Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler Dumped by American Idol Execs? — Report
When Jennifer Lopez confirmed her departure from the American Idol judging line-up, it sure sounded like she was the one making the decision. Even Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe made it abundantly clear that he wanted her back for Season 12.
But a new report indicates that it might have been the show execs who pulled the plug on J.Lo’s judging bid.
According to The Wrap, Jen wanted a $2 million raise (on top of the $15 million she was already earning) to come back. But Fox “surprised her by not making a counteroffer,” an insider said.
The report also indicates that Steven Tyler, who announced he was leaving the show to focus on his band Aerosmith, is not returning because the network decided not to renew his contract either.
Reportedly, Fox execs are aiming for an all-new “Idol 2.0” style of show, with host Ryan Seacrest as the only remaining element from previous years.
We’re not sure where that leaves Randy Jackson! Last we heard, the longtime Idol judge was still weighing his options.
