Kree Harrison is a seasoned and confident performer, but American Idol 2013 fans learned tonight the tragic story behind what happened to this Season 12 Top 9 contestant’s parents.

Kree lost her dad to an airplane crash when she was only 12 years old, a difficult ordeal for a young girl to go through. Just four years later, her mother died in a car accident when Kree was just 16 years old.

To cope with the tragedy of her parents’ deaths, she took to songwriting to express her emotions. Let’s just say you’ll need some tissues handy to check out her song, “You Would’ve Wanted It That Way”.

Even without her parents, Kree finds solid support in the rest of her family. In a red carpet exclusive, Kree also told Wetpaint Entertainment that her boyfriend of four years is one of her biggest supporters. During her hometown visit, Kree's sister told her how proud she is of how well Kree has done in the competition — and how happy their parents would have been.
