The American Idol 2013 Top 7 took on some of our favorite rock songs during performance night, with a few of the singers stepping out of their comfort zone for the very first time.
The night kicked off with Burnell Taylor singing Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name,” a very different choice for the soulful singer. While he made a great effort, the judges noted he seemed uncomfortable throughout the performance. He later redeemed himself while singing a duet with Candice Glover of The Box Tops’ “The Letter.”
Kree Harrison, on the other hand, slipped easily into rock mode with her take on Janis Joplin’s “Piece of My Heart.” Similarly, Janelle Arthur confidently tackled her version of Billy Joel’s “You May Be Right.”
Lazaro Arbos seemed to redeem himself again with the judges after singing Queen’s “We Are the Champions.” Predictably, Candice Glover performed a killer version of The Rolling Stones’s “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” Amber Holcomb impressed the judges with her take on Heart’s “What About Love,” eliciting a standing ovation for her performance. Angie Miller found herself back at the piano at the beginning of Evanescence’s “Bring Me to Life,” and later moving to center stage.
