We're still not quite sure if Cortez Shaw is winner material, but we do admire his determination. The powers that be behind American Idol 2013 should divide the hopefuls for Season 12 into “newbies” and “veterans,” as it seems that nearly half of the Top 40 have been down this Idol Road before. Returning hopeful and Dallas native Cortez Shaw calls this season his “second chance at redemption.”
The handsome singer sat down with americanidol.com to discuss his idols (Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Whitney Houston), his Idol inspirations (Kelly Clarkson and Ruben Studdard), and why he thinks he’s the next American Idol. As he put it, “This is my dream. This is my passion,” and he thinks all his hard work will get him there.
It’s interesting to take a look back at his audition last year, as Randy Jackson seemed to want to cut off his rendition of Adele’s “Someone Like You”. A bad case of Adele burnout, perhaps? But Jennifer Lopez let him finish, and he got three yeses, sending him to Hollywood. As he said in his package last year, “American Idol is opportunity at its greatest.” We’ll see if he’s able to capitalize on it.
What do you think -- could Cortez win it all?
