DeAndre Brackensick looks straight out of a ‘90s music video with his Janet Jackson-esque curly locks and Fabio-grade chiseled bod. Jennifer Lopez loves herself some Deandre, gushing about his “magic little voice” back when he auditioned for American Idol Season 10. The San Jose-born Brackensick is back for Season 11, and proving to be much more finessed his second time around.

DeAndre, just 17, impressed judges in Season 11’s Las Vegas round when he sang “It Doesn’t’ Matter Anymore” with Jessica Sanchez and (now eliminated) Candice Glover. The soft-spoken originally auditioned for Idol because he wanted to overcome his shyness. “Last year just wasn’t what I wanted,” Deandre explains in his Golden Ticket interview. “I wasn’t ready.  This year, I’m ready.”

DeAndre started singing when he was just 2, and realized he was good at it at about age 8 when he started getting compliments from family members. Deandre is super proud of his Hawaiian heritage (and has been known to shred on a ukulele), and credits his family as his biggest inspiration. Fun fact: Deandre was elected homecoming king of his high school. Ladies love DeAndre!
