American Idol Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe has implied this may be the season that we break the WGWG (white guys with guitars) curse, so how about a dude playing a tabula solo?
 
Yeah, we hadn’t heard of it either, but it’s a pretty cool Indian drum that looks like the bongos. Gurpreet “Peter” Singh Sarin is one of the names on the Top 40 spoiler list for Season 12, and if he pulls out this unique instrument during one of his performances, he’s likely to stand out among the crowd.
 
The Washington, D.C. area resident has a fairly large amount of samples on his YouTube channel, with John Legend standing out as a possible muse. Of course, it wouldn’t be American Idol if someone didn’t pull something out of the Adele songbook.
 
Sadly Gurpreet will not be the contestant to break the WGWG curse this season, as he was eliminated during the Vegas rounds.
