Have you been seeing her name all over the place and find yourself wondering: Who is Kellie Pickler? Kellie was a sixth place finisher on American Idol Season 5 and a 'celebrity' contestant on Dancing With the Stars 2013.
During her run on American Idol, she became known for her Southern charm, country twang, and sweet but ditzy nature. The Albemarle, NC, native also came with a heart-wrenching backstory, as she was abandoned by her mother and her father was in and out prison, so she was raised by her grandparents.
Since her time on American Idol, Kellie has had her debut album, aptly titled Small Town Girl, certified gold. Her follow-up, self-titled CD earned her a CMT Music Awards nomination. Kellie was also nominated for “Top New Female Vocalist” in the 42nd Academy of Country Music Awards and received an ASCAP Award for “Red High Heels,” her debut single. The talented performer has also nabbed three Country Music Awards and several nominations for Country Music Association and Teen Choice Awards.
The 25-year-old singer, who was rated as the 14th best American Idol alum by Billboard, married songwriter Kyle Jacobs in a small ceremony on a private island in the Caribbean in 2011. Last year, the gorgeous Idol alum shaved her blonde locks on Good Morning America to show solidarity with her friend, Summer Holt Miller, who had been stricken with breast cancer.
Kellie made headlines last month when she was announced as the first American Idol alum to grace the cast of Dancing With the Stars 2013 for the show's 16th season. She was paired with dancer and choreographer Derek Hough.
“People are expecting me to be good, and I don’t know if I am or not,” Kellie said. “I hope people don’t have too high of expectations for me, because I’m not a dancer.”
Kellie's first week on Dancing With the Stars 2013 confirmed what fans expected of her anyway, as her performance of the Cha Cha with Derek garnered rave reviews from the DWTS judges. Len Goodman called it “fantastic,” and a great start to the season. Bruno Tonioli said he can’t wait to see Kellie dance again. And Carrie Ann Inaba loved her “sass and class.” Overall, the performance earned a score of 21 out of 30.
