The viewing public collectively shuddered when Steven Tyler called American Idol Season 11 contestant Shannon Magrane “hot, humid, and happening” during the Savannah auditions. Yikes. Though the 6’0” volleyball player does look older than her 16 years, the fact that her entire family was in the room at the time made it all the more awkward. Nevertheless, Shannon showed off her singing chops with “Something’s Got a Hold on Me” by Etta James, earning a ticket to Hollywood.
Speaking of family, Shannon’s father, Joe Magrane, pitched in the 1987 World Series for the St. Louis Cardinals. Impressive, but we think his daughter just might overshadow him with her music career! Shannon tells FOX, “I get my competitive edge from my dad and my passion and love for everything from my mom."
After her fierce perfomance iin the Semifinals, Shannon was getting buzz as one to beat. However, the judges thought Shannon's nerves got the best of her in her Top 13 performance of Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing." And in her Top 12 performance, Shannon took on Mariah Carey's "One Sweet Day" and received positive reactions from the judges.
