Shelby Lynn Tweten was bravely honest about her struggle with bipolar disorder in her American Idol Season 11 Aspen audition. Reminiscent of James Durbin’s candor about his history coming to terms with Tourette’s and Asberger’s, Shelby explains how important it is that she stay on her medication, or else she doesn’t feel like herself.

Shelby sang Carrie Underwood’s “Temporary Home,” and impressed the judges enough to send her to Hollywood. Shelby is a student at Mankato West High School in Mankato, Minnesota. Shelby is also a model and is rumored to make it all the way to the top 42.
