In his golden ticket interview last season, American Idol hopeful Vincent Powell called his season 11 audition his “last chance.” Lightning apparently does strike twice, however, as this year’s American Idol 2013 sees him making it to the Top 20 so far at least.

Like season 11 rising star Colton Dixon, Vincent is a Christian artist. The Houston native has even released a 12-track gospel CD entitled Convinced, along with a Christmas album. A youth minister and worship curator at his church in Houston, Vincent studied television, radio, and film at Texas Southern University, where he reportedly sang with a jazz ensemble.

Vincent comes from a long line of performers. As he told americanidol.com last year, “This was kind of frightening, but my mother and sisters are singers, so it was in the genes.”

You can sample quite a few songs on showcaseyourmusic.com, which refers to his style as a “unique blend of gospel and jazz with a contemporary flavor.”

Do you think Vincent has what it takes to break the streak of “WGWG” (white guys with guitars) winners? Watch his performances on American Idol 2013 so far below.
