Now that American Idol season 12 is down to five girls, the dynamic is so interesting. We’ve got two country singers, two old-school powerhouse vocalists, and one girl who looks to be on track to be a Christian artist. Here’s the thing–they’re all mad talented, as Randy Jackson might say.
While Jimmy Iovine pointed out that Kree Harrison’s performances are getting a bit boring, there’s no denying this girl can sing. And she has been amazingly consistent, living up to her reputation as the girl who can choose just the right song for her killer voice.
Angie Miller has wowed since Hollywood Week and, although she’s had a few missteps here and there (“Shop Around,” anyone?), she has shown us that she can come back from being down even stronger. If she sticks by the piano, the judges will be in heaven.
Janelle Arthur might not have many weeks left because, when all is said and done, her vocals aren’t on the same level as the other four girls. As Nicki Minaj pointed out, though, she has a “best friend quality” that so many girls will love, and she’ll have a long career in country music.
Amber Holcomb is one of the most perplexing hopefuls ever to grace the Idol stage. Despite flawless performances and the over-the-top approval of the American Idol judges, she doesn’t seem to have a strong fanbase.
Candice Glover has never faltered in any of her vocals, but it was this past week’s performance of “Love Song” that put her on everyone’s radar as someone who could easily win it all.
Our favorite has been Kree all along. Her vast musical knowledge and silky vocals are unmatched. If she can bring more charisma to her performances, she’ll be a hard one to top.
