Tonight, we said goodbye to Devin Velez after what felt like a short run on American Idol 2013. The remaining Top 7 are here to stay for another week, but which one of the talented contestants is your favorite?
We last saw the singers take on songs from the Motown catalog, including classic tunes by Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, and Smokey Robinson, who was also on hand to personally mentor the Season 12 contestants.
The judges were most impressed by Candice Glover and Amber Holcomb, with Randy Jackson declaring that Amber had the best vocal of the night. Kree Harrison also received praise for her standout performance during a duet of “Like a Prayer” with Janelle Arthur, and for her rendition of “Don’t Play That Song.”
The guys fared well with their solo performances, but their group take on the Four Tops’ “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)” had Nicki Minaj yelling for them to get off stage.
Surprisingly, it was Angie Miller who delivered the night’s weakest performance with her take on Smokey Robinson & the Miracles’ “Shop Around.” Randy Jackson called out the pitchiness in her voice, while the other judges didn’t seem to like her song choice.
So who among the remaining American Idol Top 7 is your favorite? Vote in our poll below and let us know!
