With an all-girl Top 5 on American Idol 2013, it’s anyone’s game as these five females sang their hearts out for a chance to advance to the Season 12 Top 4. With the finale just a month away, it’s getting difficult to choose who to send home.
Tonight, the Top 5 sang two rounds of songs, the first being a tune from her birth year and the second a track to pay tribute to a musical diva.
We started off the evening with Candice Glover, who performed jazzy take on Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up.” Predictable, the judges loved it. Following Candice was Janelle Arthur, who took on Vince Gill’s “When I Call Your Name.” The judges didn’t seem feel the emotional connection, but they agreed her voice is still wonderful. The other country cutie, Kree Harrison, chose The Black Crowes’ “She Talks to Angels” and delivered yet another beautiful performance. In a touching tribute to the Boston Marathon bombing, Angie Miller performed The Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand By You” and got a standing ovation from American Idol judges Keith Urban and Randy Jackson. The first round closed out with Amber’s take on Mariah Carey’s “Without You,” which the judges mostly adored.
Candice also kicked off the second half of performances for the evening by singing the Mariah Carey/Whitney Houston duet “When You Believe,” blowing the judges away. Janelle performed an energetic version of Dolly Parton’s “Dumb Blonde,” which had the judges divided. Nicki Minaj even commented that she was in danger of being sent home tomorrow. Kree took on diva Celine Dion’s hit song “Have You Ever Been In Love?” and Angie followed her with a powerhouse rendition of Beyonce’s “Halo.” Amber wrapped up the night with a gorgeous take on Barbra Streisand’s “What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life,” which had the judges on their feet.
