American Idol Season 10 alum Stefano Langone, who finished seventh in last year’s competition, recently spilled a few juicy tidbits about his post-Idol experiences in a candid interview.
Speaking to Phoenix, Arizona radio hosts Johnjay and Rich, Stefano used air quotes when he talked about the day Pia Toscano was eliminated over him. “I was ‘close’ to Pia at the time,” he said. That little hand gesture prompted a ton of reaction questions from the audience, which he responded to with, “It is in the past” and “It is what it is.” Not to worry though, Stefano isn’t harboring any hard feelings. The suave singer is rumored to be romancing fellow Season 10 contestant Haley Reinhart.
The subject of his paycheck for the Idol summer tour also came up during the chat. When the hosts asked whether the contestants were given the rumored $175,000 payout for the tour, Stefano guffawed and said, “I wish! No, not even close.”
He explained that concert promoters AEG lost a lot of money on the Season 9 Idol tour, prompting them to cut pay for the Season 10 tour. Ironically, Stefano and crew sold out most venues during the 2011 summer performances.
“I’m not going to give a number... because I can’t, actually, in the contract. But it was so bad that a lot of us were really, really upset about it because of how much we were working... and we were just being like drained and selling out shows and didn’t get much at all.”
Stefano did joke that the success of the Season 10 contestants’ summer tour probably paved the way for a better payday for this year’s crop. There’s always a tiny silver lining!
