American Idol 2013 contestant Charlie Askew took his awkwardness to the next level with his performance of Genesis's "Mama" during the Top 10 guys semi-finals, which had the judges' scratching their heads. Song choice aside, Nicki Minaj especially lamented Charlie's fashion choices for the evening. The voters apparently didn’t jive with Charlie’s song or fashion decisions as well, choosing not to advance him further in the competition.

The Little Rock, Arkansas, native suffers from “Charlie Askew Syndrome,” according to his mom. Don’t worry — it’s not contagious. He describes himself as “socially awkward,” but the doctors weren’t able to diagnose the issue, per se.

“When I was little I wasn’t able to reach out and connect with people socially or verbally,” Charlie said during his Baton Rouge American Idol audition. “Through music, finally I found an outlet, some way I can express myself.”

His quirky and candid persona captured the hearts of the judges, but it was his performances of Queen’s “Breakthru” followed by Nat King Cole’s “Nature Boy” that really wowed.

In his “Road to Hollywood” video on americanidol.com, the Top 40 contestant said it was Robert Plant who inspired him. He watched the musical legend perform and said to himself, “That’s what I want to do.”

Do you think Charlie deserved to make it further, or was it truly his time to go?
