Fans of the fledgling singing competition show Duets were probably a bit confused when one of John Legend’s singing partners, Johnny Gray, was replaced by brand-new contestant Meleana Brown during last night’s episode.

So what gives? Duets host Quddus said Johnny’s departure was “due to unforeseen circumstances,” but the former contestant himself had another story to tell via his Twitter account.

Responding to one fan’s question about why he wasn’t on last night’s episode, Johnny tweeted, “@just_bam I promise you bro, if I had been on this week, I would have been #1, GUARANTEE! Did they explain why I'm gone? ‪#Duets‬ @DuetsABC.”

He also made it clear to fans that he did not drop out of the competition either, tweeting, “@BenjaminMKurt I can tell you that I didn't "drop out" and hopefully soon, I can talk more about it. Y'all will be THE FIRST to know.” Johnny tweeted on, explaining, “it's not right, but I'll have my time to talk about it.”

Seeing as he snagged the #2 spot after his debut performance last week, we can’t picture Johnny dropping out of the show either. Hopefully we’ll know soon why the talented crooner was disqualified from competing!
