For his Top 10 guys semi-finals performance, American Idol 2013 contestant Nick Boddington returned to the piano and turned in a beautiful rendition of The Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris." Despite the moving performance, the judges felt overall that he stuck too close to his comfort zone. The voters apparently weren’t impressed either, as Nick did not earn enough votes to make it into the Season 12 Top 10.

Nick is a Memphis native but has lived in New York City since 2005, where he’s worked as a background vocalist and session musician for other emerging artists.

Nick made it to Hollywood Week last year after his Portland audition earned him that prized golden ticket, but was cut from the competition shortly after.

In his Americanidol.com interview from Season 11, the self-described singer-songwriter said he draws influences from R&B, country, and ‘90s pop. He also started the group The Wonderland Robbers with his girlfriend, Jade. Nick says that, until he auditioned for Idol, he hadn’t quite figured out who he was as an artist but has since found his musical sweet spot.

“I think I have the ability to make music that moves people,” he said.

Do you think Nick should have made it further in the competition, or was it his time to go?
