American Idol 2013 hopeful Shubha Vedula made a huge first impression on Randy Jackson and Keith Urban at her initial audition in Long Beach. Then the exotic beauty sang Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey’s “When You Believe” during Hollywood Week and not only lived to tell about it, but Mariah thanked her for the incredible performance.

All this leads us to ask, just what happened for Shubha to be eliminated during the sudden death round of American Idol Season 12 in Las Vegas? First of all, the judges hated her hot mess rendition of “Born This Way” by Lada Gaga. She started out beautifully at the piano, but the wheels fell off the wagon once she began to dance. As Nicki Minaj put it without mincing her words, “There’s so much going on. It was a mashup of Xtina and Gangnam Style.”

With the “one song, one chance -- no mercy” approach to the sudden death, that was probably the biggest reason Shubha Vedula was eliminated. With singers like Angela Miller, Kree Harrison, and her bestie, Adriana Latonio, in her group, the competition was fierce. She may have made it if she was up against a different group of girls, and then she would have had a chance to redeem herself.

One also has to factor in the fact that Tenna Torres, who the judges liked but weren’t necessarily falling all over themselves for, is 28 years old. While we don’t know whether they consider those things, it’s possible they might think that the 17-year-old Shubha will have more opportunities to work on her career.

Regardless, we were saddened to say goodbye to someone with such potential. What do you think -- should Shubha have been eliminated?
