From singers like Britney Spears (once upon a time) and American Idol’s own Jordin Sparks to athletes like Tim Tebow and the now-notorious Manti Te’o, some stars are not ashamed to make public statements proclaiming their virginity. As Huffington Post pointed out in December, it used to be a Disney-esque status symbol, complete with purity rings.

Some stars, like Britney and Miley Cyrus, have potentially used their virgin status to get away with being more sexual in their videos and on magazine covers. The thing that no one considered was that time marches on and people change, along with their outlooks on life.

As HuffPo points out, “Advertisers and parents alike rejoiced at the rings, but they didn't stay on for long. We can't say we're too surprised — it's easy to reject the notions of premarital sex when you're 13, but much harder when you're 18 and in a relationship.”

The perfect example of this is Jordin Sparks, who hinted at her change of heart (and possibly virginity status) on The Today Show:

“When I was 13 my mom spoke to me about purity and waiting for marriage and different things like that. And, you know, at the time I was like, ‘Sure that’s great,’ but I can’t say what’s gonna happen a couple of months from now. People grow.”

Perhaps Jordin’s boyfriend, Jason Derulo, caused this change of heart, but who knows? She may have simply decided she was ready...or not. No one knows for sure but the former American
Idol winner, herself.

Another star who has talked openly about her desire to hold on to her “V Card” is Julianne Hough. She once told CosmoGIRL! she wants to wait until marriage:

“I want to be with that special person. I think [the choice] to have sex before marriage is an individual one, but if you’re just with one person, it’s only for one good reason, and [waiting to have sex] will strengthen that relationship. I’m not trying to preach consequences here, but I think when you say no, down the line it will be a better decision.”

So is Jullianne Hough still a virgin? We can't say for certain, but it doesn’t sound like her celebu-boyfriend, Ryan Seacrest, cares if she is or not. He recently gushed on Chelsea Lately, “She’s the best part of every day.” Awwww!

What do you think about stars discussing their virginity status with the media?
