American Idol 2013 contestant Nick Boddington is “so, so, so, so, so happy” to have made the Season 12 Top 20. For someone who barely made a blip during the first few rounds of the competition, Nick has more than made up for his absence when he roared onto the scene in the guys’ Hollywood Week.
Memphis, TN native Nick Boddington auditioned for the American Idol judges in New York, NY. Unfortunately, his audition was not aired, so viewers didn’t actually get to sample his wares until the guys’ Hollywood Week. He was part of a very entertaining performance of “Somebody to Love” by Queen from the ‘Math Heads’ group.
So far, Nick’s best performance in the competition was his Hollywood Week solo of “Stars” by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. Seated behind the piano, Nick showed off an impressive range and sensitivity that convinced the judges they need to see more of him in Vegas.
Vegas turned out to be something of a stumbling block for Nick, who failed to impress the judges much with his performance of “Say Something Now” by James Morrison. Nick says he was “100 percent” unsure if he would make it to the American Idol Top 20 or not after that song. Luckily for Nick, the judges gave him brownie points for past performances and sent him through to the Top 20. “I’ll kind of beat myself up about it a little more, but I’m so grateful to get another chance.
Next for him in the competition, Nick Boddington says he really wants to find “the perfect songs” because he needs to “do something that really shows a lot of strength in performance and strength in vocals.” From now on, he says, he’s really going to focus on getting just the right songs.
Nick wants to give a shout out and thanks to all his fans and supporters, including the ‘Bod Squad’ on Twitter. “I really, really appreciate all your kind notes every day, it really, really keeps me up. It makes me feel so good, I can’t wait for more.”
