Angie Miller and Lazaro Arbos joined forces during the Top 7 performance round on American Idol to sing Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” As the first boy/girl duet, the two did a formidable job with the classic rock tune, despite Lazaro missing some of the lyrics at one point in the song.
The judges overall liked the performance, but noted that Angie seemed to have carried the song a bit more than Lazaro did. Randy Jackson asked whether Lazaro had ever heard the song before, and he admitted that he hadn’t. Nicki Minaj pointed out the Lazaro’s missing lyrics, but said she liked the song over all.
Mariah Carey noted how difficult it is to sing a Freddie Mercury song, but said she ultimately enjoyed the performance. Last but not least, Keith Urban said he wasn’t sure he liked the song choice, saying that it was a bit kitschy and made him feel like he was watching a variety show. But Keith did praise Lazaro’s new look, saying it was a step up from his usual “candy man” style.
