Although both are primarily known for excelling at R&B songs, both singers did a wonderful job with the classic tune. Mariah Carey loved the performance, while Keith Urban singled out Candice as being the shining star of the performance.
Nicki Minaj also praised Candice’s strong vocals, and noted that Burnell came into his own as an artist with this song more than he did with his solo song. She suggested he take a cue from Kree and Candice to just be himself no matter what song is thrown at him.
Randy Jackson agreed that the performance was great, complimenting Burnell’s part of the duet and declaring again how amazing Candice’s voice is. As the second boy/girl duet of the night, they seemed to definitely overpower the duo of Angie Miller and Lazaro Arbos.
