American Idol’s Kree Harrison Plans to Rebuild Late Parents’ Home — Interview
One week from now on the American Idol finale, Kree Harrison might just become the next American Idol winner. If she does, her only regret will be that her parents won't be there to share the experience with her.
On American Idol 2013 this week, Kree Harrison’s hometown visit was both beautiful and heartbreaking. Celebrated by thousands of fans, surrounded by friends and family, Kree still had to deal with the sadness ofnot having her parents there to see her success. She hopes someday soon she’ll be able to rebuild the house where they last lived together as a family and reclaim it as her own.
Can you talk about going back to your family home and is someone living there?
No. It's our house, my grandpa built that house, so that house is special for so many reasons. Not just because it was the last place we were with our parents, but it has a long history It was actually a deer camp... so people would come in and hunt and my grandma would cook gumbo for them. Ray Price, the singer, was one of the guys who would come in and hunt. He's a country music legend. We will rebuild that house one day. It's hard though.
If you win the competition, is that one of the things you will do?
If I win or not, yeah. It's been a long time coming. That's always one of those things when you’re so fresh emotionally that you don't really want to touch it. But one day we will rebuild.
Will you restore it or rebuild it?
I don't know yet, it depends on how bad it is, the foundations and stuff, but I think it's pretty good and I might just move right back in.
