UPDATE (9/14/2017 12:21 p.m. ET): Simon Cowell says he’s not sure whether contestant Evie Clair will come back for the America's Got Talent Season 12 finals — following the September 7 death of her father from cancer.
“We reached out to the family and her and said, ‘It’s your choice whether you want to come on the show or not,’” the AGT judge tells ExtraTV.
“If she doesn’t, she definitely will be welcome to come on next year.”

Original story (9/9/2017 5:15 p.m. ET): America's Got Talent finalist Evie Clair tragically lost her father Amos Abplanalp to cancer this week.
Evie, who will soon perform in the show's finals, opened up in her first audition about her father's Stage 4 cancer, and has dedicated her show performances to him.
The 14-year-old's mother broke news of Amos's passing in a post on her website on Thursday.
For her original audition, Evie sang Christina Perri's "Arms," explaining that it was the song she sang to her father during his battle with cancer.
“About a year ago, my dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer," she said.
"They gave him a five percent chance to live, and he continued working and supporting our family. So tonight I’m here to sing for him.”
The young singer has since advanced on the show, most recently performing an emotional rendition of Ella Henderson's "Yours," and preparing to compete against other noteworthy contestants in the upcoming finals.
This week has been the best and worst week of my life. I'm so grateful for the memories I've made with my family in the past year and a half. I'm so grateful for my dad being such a great example of faith and strength. He has endured so much and all that pain has finally come to an end. He is in a place "12 gazillion" times better than this and I know he is so happy there. Thank you to all the people who have supported my family along this journey. I love you all. I'll miss you so much, Daddy. Thanks for teaching me to love salsa and chicken wings and most of all the Lord. Love you lots. RIP: 9/7/17
"This week has been the best and worst week of my life," Evie wrote in a post about her Dad's passing on Instagram.
Evie's mother opened up about her family's decision to turn off Amos's life-sustaining machines in a post on her website.

"We watched him take his last breaths as he continued to breathe for about 15 minutes on his own," she wrote.
"The children burst into tears but are now at home laughing at old home movies of daddy and remembering our great love for the most wonderful man any of us have ever known."
Evie shared more words about her father in a second Instagram post.
"I hope I made you proud, Daddy," she said. "I've always done it for you and I'll do it for you forever."
After Evie's rendition of "Yours" in the semifinals, the America's Got Talent judges spoke about her stunning performance.
“Evie, Evie, Evie, I’ve said this before but you are gutsy," said Simon Cowell. "You really, really are and let me tell you something: this song is beautiful, your voice is beautiful."
"You made (this song) your version. Your tone, your pitch was stunning and laid back and let me tell you, your dad is going to be so proud of you,” he continued.
