André Leon Talley
Role: Judge on America's Next Top Model
Born: October 16, 1949
Birthplace: Durham, North Carolina
Drunk person in the street might yell to him: “WHERE’S ANNA?!”
Five items within his reach right now: Diamond-fur calculator (for adding up diamond-furs), diamond-fur pencil sharpener, diamond-fur lamp, diamond-fur custom-made robe, diamond-fur shadow box to house a very old diamond-fur.
André Leon Talley is the former American editor-at-large for Vogue magazine, which means he gave opinions on clothes whilst wearing diamond-furs. Talley has been a front-row regular at fashion shows in New York, Paris, London, and Milan for more than 25 years. He uses his influence to promote young fashion designers (such as John Saldivar) and mentors young talent in other fields, as well. His most famous pairings of late have been with designers Tracy Reese, Rachel Roy, and singer/actress Jennifer Hudson. More importantly, he is known as a very close friend of pop diva Mariah Carey, fashion designer and ANTM Cycle 1 judge Kimora Lee Simmons, and tennis star Venus Williams. What more do you need? In 2007, he was ranked 45th in Out Magazine's "50 Most Powerful Gay Men and Women in America." Talley has an honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Savannah College of Art and Design, where he serves as a member of the Board of Trustees. Fun fact: His first job was as an assistant for Andy Warhol for a mere $50 a week.
Surprisingly, it took eight long years for Tyra to convince ALT to serve as ANTM judge. Tyra asked André to lend his fierce eye to the show for Cycle 1 but he sadly declined. However, once Tyra finally proved herself to be a successful businesswoman and model mentor, André finally jump aboard the ANTM train and brought the term “dreckitude” to our lives.
