Everybody smize for our girl Yaya DaCosta, who continues to prove America's Next Top Model can be a great career launchpad.
Yaya, 31, was the runner-up of ANTM Cycle 3, and she's since had recurring roles on All My Children and Ugly Betty, with memorable appearances in films like Tron: Legacy, In Time, The Butler, and The Kids Are All Right.
Now, TVLine reports, she will play Whitney Houston in Lifetime's upcoming biopic on the late superstar.
The Lifetime movie will follow Whitney's volatile relationship with Bobby Brown during her massive rise to fame. Angela Bassett, who starred in Waiting to Exhale with Whitney, is directing the still untitled project, which is aimed for a 2015 release. No word yet on who will play Bobby.
Whitney's daughter, Bobbi Kristina, recently said that she herself was the only worthy choice to portray her mother. “Any1 would or should EVER play my mother & tell OUR story, we've talked MANY times & 1 & ONLY person she approved of is ME. Understand that,” she tweeted on May 26. She later added that she “TRULY understand ppl want 2 love & honor #HERSTORY way they think should be told. But simply out of respect, All I ask isn't mucho lol :)."
It looks like Angela and company decided to go in a different direction.
What do you think about Yaya playing Whitney? Great call or do you think Bobbi Kristina (or someone else) would've been a better choice?
ANTM Cyce 21 premieres Friday, August 22, at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
