We don’t know if there will be a greater fashion moment all cycle than the black angel wings Mr. Jay sported on the beach. Every single thing that happened during this scene was secondary to the fact that they were strapped to his arms. But since the wings were technically leading into the fallen angels theme and not an accessory of his choice, we can only pause to remember their crazy awesomeness and move on to the real hit and miss of the week.
THE HIT: Rhianna.
When all of this is said and done, we wouldn’t be surprised if Rhianna ends up getting a lot of work with Urban Outfitters, since she always looks like she’s just stepped out from the pages of their catalog. From her makeover day outfit (a green and brown plaid jumper over a short-sleeved blue blouse with white socks and heels), to her panel ensemble (The Hat, a multi-strand necklace with a large pendant, a black romper under a black blazer, a belt, green socks and brown shoes), Rhianna has a good eye for separating creative from crazy. She looks editorial. We’re waiting for the inevitable moment when Andre and/or Tyra asks her to remove an Ostrich feather sash, but for right now, nothing she’s adding is detracting from the look.
HONORABLE MENTIONS: Kayla. The green and gold neckline of her tank top was a great complement to her new red hair.
THE MISS: Kacey.
This is a good lesson about accessories that are included with a purchase. Kacey’s fun, vivacious personality was lost behind a large, dangling silver brooch that came with her shirt. As Andre said, it was just too much fashion. We think the greater issue might have been the very conservative combination of the black sweater and grey turtleneck. Throw in the brooch, the wide belt and the heels, and the entire look seemed too old and too young at the same time.
