One of the most exciting features of America's Next Top Model Cycle 19 is the new judge, Rob Evans. He’s stunningly gorgeous, he’s a male model/boxer, and he may or may not have been courting host and fellow judge Tyra Banks while filming.

Wetpaint Entertainment was lucky enough to speak with Rob at the ANTM Cycle 19 premiere party at the Tribeca Grand in New York City on August 22. And he gave us an earful! Read on for Rob’s take on all models looking the same, what makes Tyra tick, and why his being a straight man brings a whole different viewpoint to the revamped show.

Wetpaint Entertainment: What makes some models stand out from the pack?
Rob Evans: When you start modeling, after a while, every model starts looking the same. It’s like in life, if you look at something too long, you start to get bored of it. So you need something else, you need someone to come along who’s really bubbly, a lot of personality. The thing that gets you far in this industry is not the way you look, it’s your personality. Definitely.

What is it about Tyra that made her stand out from other supermodels out there?
Her drive. Definitely her drive. It’s like, “Tyra do you want to do this, Tyra do you want to do that!” She’s like, “No, no, no.” Straight work, work, work. And that’s why she is where she is and I am where I am. I prefer to go out ... because I’m still young, but with her from a young age from the get go she was constantly like work, work, work, and I respect her for it. I look up to her in a way because she started off where I was and now look at her.

Plus, she’s gorgeous.
Yeah, she’s beautiful. [Smiles] She’s beautiful.

What would fans be surprised to learn about you?
Who I am, I’m not your typical stereotype model. I’ve only been modeling two years but from my background and the boxer background, because I wanted to travel and stuff, I still keep it real. A lot of people have a stereotype of a male model, they think they’re in love with themselves, but with me you’ll realize I’m nothing like that. I’m very grounded, everything I’ve done, I’m still grounded, I don’t let it go to my head and I’ve been around this industry and I know what happens.

Are there any rivalries to look forward to on the new judges’ panel?
Yeah, I disagreed with them all, because the thing is, I don’t know if I should say it but I’ll say it anyway, they’ve normally had gay men on there, or a woman’s point of view, and now that there’s a straight man’s point of view, everyone disagrees with it, but I’m just trying to keep it real. There were just certain pictures that I found attractive, but the thing with a female model is, you need to appeal to everyone, not just fashion people. You need to have male interest, fans, female fans, industry fans, and the thing is, every gay man thinks you should be a gay man’s fan — or a fashion man’s fantasy. It’s like, there’s gotta be guys looking at you thinking, “I want this,” so if I looked at a picture and I thought it was sexy, I would just say “Sexy,” but the women didn’t agree, and neither did the gay men. It’s just like, I’m a male and I’m a straight male, so I’m talking for another half of all the fans.
