As the only plus-sized model to ever win America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 10's Whitney Thompson has always been an outspoken advocate of embracing all forms of beauty. Therefore, we weren't surprised to hear about her latest venture, The Big and the Beautiful, a dating site where people of all shapes and sizes can be honest about who they are.
Wetpaint Entertainment recently had a chance to chat with Whitney about the new site, and her thoughts on All-Stars season.
Here is part one of the interview, where Whitney shares her thoughts on the lack of plus-sized All-Stars — and the introduction of Kelly Cutrone to the show.
Wetpaint Entertainment: Have you been watching ANTM All-Stars?
Whitney Thompson: I haven't. I haven't even been able to catch one episode! But I know that they're in Greece. I know, I'm a bad top model. [laughs]
We were disappointed that there weren't any plus sized models this season.
I actually was too. I wrote about that on my blog. I was really sad, because I thought they would at least bring Toccara back. I mean, I think she's the one girl looking back, that could have won. I understand why she didn't on the show, because she had that little fit with the stylist or whatever, but I feel like knowing what she knows now she could come back and definitely win it, so I was really upset about that.
They did bring back other models known for drama.
When I saw the cast I was like, really? Some of these girls are so old, too. It's been eight years since it started, it's not realistic. Who's going to sign a 26-year-old model? That's not going to happen. Especially when you're not plus-sized. Plus-sized goes older. But when you're a skinny model, you're competing against against literally thirteen- and fourteen-year-old models.
Which is a whole other issue...
Oh yeah, it's disgusting. But the majority of the girls on the runway are under the age of sixteen. They haven't even hit puberty. That's something I talk about for the NEDA [National Eating Disorders Association]. Of course they're so skinny, they haven't hit puberty!
Have you heard that Kelly Cutrone will be replacing Andre Leon Talley as a judge?
No! I did not about that, but I look forward to watching it. She's got a reputation with that attitude.
Check back tomorrow for the second half of the interview, where Whitney explains more details about her new website, and shares what else is coming up in her busy life.
