Whoa! There probably wasn’t much smizing going on at the America's Next Top Model studios yesterday: ANTM just fired three longtime stars. According to Page Six, Jay Manuel, J. Alexander, and Nigel Barker all got the boot.
An insider on the show says that the firings were “a production decision” and that there are “major changes planned for [season] 19.” Photographer Nigel, runway mentor Miss J, and creative director Jay have all been with the show since its first season back in 2003. 18 seasons later, Tyra Banks and the other producers have cut them loose, apparently because they want a more internet-driven ANTM. Their replacements may include bloggers and web-savvy fashion insiders like street style blogger Bryan Boy.
We respect the desire to keep things fresh after 18 long seasons. But there’s a reason the internet is on the internet, not in our TVs. Not everyone in the world needs to have a blog, OK? Sorry, we might just be cranky at the prospect of losing Nigel and his weirdly handsome bald head from our lives.
UPDATE: Tyra Banks tweeted a response to the firing rumors, saying "Fierce and love to my [Nigel], [Jay Manuel], and [Miss J]. ANTM turned us into a family. Excited for what the future holds for us."
Catch the next episode of ANTM Cycle 18 on Wednesday, April 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
