After being the supermodel who had it all, Tyra decided to ditch her talk show to focus on ANTM, a Harvard Business School course, and launching other ventures under the Tyra brand (like her new online fashion and style magazine, typeF). Unfortunately, with so much going on in her professional life, the dreams of marriage, babies, and an unconventional-but-fierce family were put on the back burner.
"After the talk show started, and I had Top Model at the same time, it engulfed me so much that it dulled my maternal instinct. I hope that when I get more of a handle on my life it comes back," Tyra admitted to Essence back in 2008.
Seemingly, she's been inching closer to maternity since then; she's dropped the talk show, obliquely admitted that she just maybe might be trying for kids, and moved from LA to New York into a fancy-shmancy Battery Park residence with boyfriend, 50-year-old investment banker, John Utendahl. But the move got her a bit of bad press, with critics saying she went against the fierce, independent message she promotes by moving across the country "for a guy."
Tyra fired back, "I’m very insulted by that rumor. I employ a lot of people; their livelihoods rest on my shows. The move to New York was a decision I made with my manager. It was not about a man."
Ty-Ty has definitely proven herself both fierce and independent; let's cut her some slack. Personally, we can't wait for her to mix model and banker genes to create a little superbaby.
